Integration Counselling for Ceremonial Plant Medicine Experiences

Discover deeper insights and embrace spiritual awakening

Ceremonial plant medicine can guide us inward, unveiling profound insights and opening doorways to spiritual awakening. My counselling practice is dedicated to supporting those who have experienced transformative journeys with sacred plants like Ayahuasca, San Pedro, and Psilocybin. Through compassionate, clear, and understanding integration counselling, I help clients make sense of their profound experiences and incorporate these insights into their daily lives.

My journey and approach

Since embarking on my personal plant medicine journey in 2018, I have witnessed firsthand the immense potential for self-awareness and healing that these experiences bring. This transformative journey has profoundly influenced my practice as both an accredited psychotherapist since 2019 and a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with over 25 years of experience. I integrate modern therapeutic techniques with the ancient wisdom of Eastern philosophies to offer a holistic and comprehensive approach to healing and integration.

What are ceremonial plant medicines?

Ceremonial plant medicines are plants used in spiritual and religious ceremonies for their psychoactive properties. They are often used for healing, divination, and spiritual exploration.

  • Ayahuasca: Originating from the Amazon rainforest, it’s a brew made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and various Psychotria species.
  • Peyote: Native to North America, it’s a small, spineless cactus containing mescaline.
  • Psilocybin mushrooms: Found worldwide, they contain the psychedelic compound psilocybin.
  • Iboga: Native to West Africa, it’s a root bark containing ibogaine.

Buddhism, hinduism, and taoism guide my approach to integration and healing:

  • Buddhism: Incorporating mindfulness, compassion, and the understanding of impermanence, I help clients embrace transformation and let go of past patterns.

  • Hinduism: Adding a dimension of spiritual devotion and unity with the self, I encourage a deeper connection to purpose and self-love.

  • Taoism: Drawing on principles of flow and balance, I help individuals align with their natural path, embrace their unique journey, and find harmony within.

In addition to these ancient philosophies, I blend a variety of therapeutic approaches to cater to the unique needs of each individual:

  • Humanistic Integration: Focusing on the whole person, I strive to help clients achieve their fullest potential and live authentic lives. This approach emphasises personal growth, self-acceptance, and the development of meaningful connections.
  • Attachment Theory: Understanding the importance of early relationships and their impact on emotional development, I help clients explore and heal attachment wounds to foster secure and healthy relationships.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): By identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, CBT helps clients develop healthier thinking and behaviour patterns, leading to improved emotional well-being.
  • Client-Centred Theory: Rooted in empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine understanding, this approach creates a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings.
  • Existential Therapy: This approach helps clients find meaning and purpose in their lives by addressing existential concerns such as freedom, responsibility, and the search for meaning.
  • Gestalt Therapy: Focusing on present-moment awareness and self-acceptance, Gestalt therapy encourages clients to fully experience and integrate their thoughts, feelings, and actions.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy: By exploring unconscious processes and early experiences, this approach helps clients gain insight into their behaviour patterns and emotional responses.
  • Family System Therapy: Recognising the importance of family dynamics, this approach addresses relational patterns within the family system to promote healing and growth.
  • EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy): Focusing on emotional regulation and connection, EFT helps clients understand and transform their emotional responses, fostering secure and meaningful relationships.
  • Mindfulness Approaches: Integrating mindfulness practices into therapy, I help clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience.

Each counselling session is a journey inward, allowing you to safely explore, process, and integrate your plant medicine insights into a holistic, meaningful way of life. Together, we will work through emotional blockages, anchor spiritual insights, and connect you with the inner wisdom that will guide you forward. My aim is to create a space where both the human and spiritual aspects of your journey are honoured.

Frequently asked questions & answers

Physical: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and changes in body temperature.

Psychological: Anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, hallucinations, and altered states of consciousness.

To minimise risks, it’s crucial to use ceremonial plant medicines under the guidance of experienced practitioners in a safe and supportive setting.

Ceremonial plant medicines can interact with prescription medications and some supplements. It’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before using these substances to avoid harmful interactions.

Ceremonial plant medicines have been used in various cultures for spiritual and psychological exploration. Some people believe these plants can help address issues such as:

  • Depression and anxiety: While some studies suggest potential benefits, more research is needed.
  • Trauma and PTSD: Some people report positive experiences with these plants in addressing trauma, but scientific evidence is limited.
  • Addiction: Ibogaine, a compound found in the iboga plant, has shown promise in treating addiction, but research is ongoing.
  • Spiritual growth: Many people use these plants to deepen their spiritual connection and gain insights into themselves and the world.

However, it’s important to note that the use of ceremonial plant medicines for psychological and spiritual conditions is not without risks. These substances can have powerful effects on the mind and body, and it’s crucial to approach them with respect and caution. Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional before using any plant medicine, especially if you have underlying mental health conditions.

Ceremonial plant medicines are used for spiritual and cultural purposes, often inducing altered states of consciousness. They are less regulated and can have significant risks if used without proper guidance. Conventional medicine and supplements are used for treating or preventing specific health conditions, are heavily regulated, and generally have a lower risk profile.
